Inventory list:

  • one 19" by 6' rack
  • two cans of brown spray paint
  • two feet of 15-year green turf carpet
  • two tubes of liquid nails
  • two spinning flowers

We got the rack from our friendly neighborhood laboratory salvage yard and delivered it (along with Ron, Erik, David and Sung) to the ACL in the back of a 1997 2-door GMC Yukon (hatch closed!) Two cans of spray paint later, we had Geoffrey.

Geoffrey on its side

On the left, Erik poses with Geoffrey before it was Geoffrey. The rack was laid on its side during refurbishing to avoid dripping (right).

While our original intention was to turf only the bottom of Geoffrey, as you can see we were so tickled by the turf, that we got a little carried away. Also, in preparation for ALS 2001, we added a LinuxBIOS Alpha cluster composed of an API CS20 frontend and 5 Compaq DS10 nodes.
