Pinky is an 8-node LinuxBIOS/BProc cluster with dual 2.4 GHz P4s connected by Myrirnet 2000 in the Evolocity chassis (effective .8U per node). Pinky is a single chassis eval unit of Pink. The frontend node is called brain. The vendor is Linux Networx.
11/17/2002: Pinky goes to Baltimore for SC '02
| As per usual, we were behind schedule for SC, so we went to salvage (again) to get a rack and then snazzied it up ourselves. |
Pinky showed up in Baltimore without a hitch and we got a small but visible spot in the LANL booth. Pinky also doubled as a stool due to lack of available seating. |
In between all the schmoozing and autograph signing, Ron and Erik were able to get a lot of work done. |
| Though it was deemed an eye-sore, we still got a lot of good traffic, including our Division Director, Bill Feiereisen, who ran SETI@home on Pinky during the conference. |
10/4/2002:
| Linux Networx wants the shipping crate back (it's a pretty nice crate), but the chassis is attached, so we remove our nodes and send it back. We are awaiting the replacement chassis. |
9/20/2002:
| We were anxious, so we went to the shipping warehouse to pick up Pinky -- too bad we didn't have a camera. Loading the 100 pound crate into Ron's Astro was quite humorous. |
| The first thing we noticed about the case was that the tip sensors were torn off. |
| Clearly it had been a rough ride. |
We had to do a bit of repair work like re-seating the Myrinet cards and bending a bit of sheet metal. |
| Once we straighted out the nodes, we re-flashed the flash with LinuxBIOS and kmonte which boots BProc over Myrinet. |
