SC 2001 bloopers
LANL is famous for its SC bloopers, and this year we had our fair share. We caught a few on camera.

| In addition to the poor booth design (which actually discouraged entry), there were a few spelling and grammatical mistakes. The misspelling of Los Alamos (left) actually occurred on every picture credited to the Monitor (about 6). |

This wasn't exacly a blunder, but it definitely raised a few eyebrows. |
We've never felt totally comfortable with shipping our equipment via carrier, and this year played out particularlly poorly. The Laboratory shipping guys built a nice crate for Geoffrey with THIS END UP stickers around the top. Unfortunately, somewhere between ALS in Oakland and Denver, the carrier (or the contractor for the carrier, as they claim) or the major U.S. airline that flew it, wrote OK TO LAY FLAT on all four sides, directly below the aforementioned stickers. As a result, Geoffrey was shipped on its face (and perhaps one of its other sides.) |

|
| These pictures show the crate after we crossed out OK TO LAY FLAT and made sure to emphasize that it was NOT okay to lay the crate flat. |

|
The crate actually arrived without the top (it was off to the side and full of cracks). All the screws that were used to secure it on were broken. It's not even vaguely clear to us how this happened. |

One thing was clear from the crushed (dense) foam packing material which surrounded Geoffrey: Geoffrey had spent more than just a little time on its face. |

|
| Our 5 Compaq DS10 nodes were separated from their face plates, which happen to also double as rack mounting ears. Nice design. |

|
The CS 20 (front end) faired a little better (broken LEDs), since it is not mounted via flimsy plastic. |

In the end, the DS10s had to be shipped home separately, faceless and ashamed. |
