Lindows is essentially Debian.  Pretty good desktop, nice firewalling 
script, doesn't have dev tools installed (gcc, man pages etc).  They 
want you to pay ($99?) per year to use their installation procedure, 
which is easier, but the debian installs work too.  Kind of jeered at by 
the Linux cognoscenti but I think the approach has merit.
