The DDK is obviously not a development environment, but I guess
you're building also the driver with VC++.
Dunno if gcc can build drivers.

If you want to look into MinGW I think that would be awesome. It does
not require porting unless you are doing very compiler specific
(=bad, IMHO) things in your code.

You want to stick with VC, that's perfectly fine of course.
