actually, it's pretty consistent. Three minute or so wait, then I get

well, a lot of stuff has to work to get this far. POST is not working
from C -- it's fine from assembly. I don't get the long delay on
serial. It goes bye-bye when it jumps to initram.

But, hey, ... it's working more than it used to.
