It would be very interesting to get the coreboot/LinuxBIOS code for that
board.

The message above means we either have an incorrect probe sequence or
the probe never reaches the chip...

I think you already told us which chip this is. One of us will be able
to figure out the probe sequence from the data sheet and add it to flashrom.
