Instead of this, you can add to your mainboard's Makefile.inc:
cbfs-files-y += cmos.default
cmos.default-name = cmos.default
cmos.default-type = "cmos default"

(not sure about the quotes in the last line)

This also picks up a file called "cmos.default" in your mainboard dir.
