Introduction

Many Thinkpad laptops have a connector named "Golden Finger for Debug Board", which exposes some interesting signals. In certain laptops, It might be possible to use it to boot on an LPC flash instead of the internal flash.

That might be handy to flash the boot firmware in laptops that have flash chip for which no clip exist, such as the X200T or the X200s that use a WSON8 flash chip.

GM45

On GM45 the computer can boot from:

  • SPI Flash (In descriptor and non-descriptor mode)
  • FWH Flash (The pins seem shared by the LPC bus, and seem to be exported on the golden finger connector)
