I'll try to look at this but my time is consumed with SC 2002, so it will 
have to wait until later next week. 

It does seem that the compressed bios stuff has made linuxbios very 
unstable at the moment. You could try disabling it -- it worked for Andrew 
Ip. See the earlier note. 

I don't want to upgrade my tree at present as I have things that need to 
work next week.
