absolutely. In essence, that's what etherboot does. See the bare metal 
toolkit for other interesting applications.

This is why the name 'linuxbios' gives us trouble. We've been trying to 
figure out if a name change would cause us more trouble, and so far the 
answer has been 'yes it will cause more trouble'.
