yes. I noticed the v1's asm implementation.  But I take it with a grain
of salt it was working because back in ~2002, as I was already hearing
reports raminit.c was broken then -- whether or not that was v1 or v2,
who knows.. still, my guess is, the code is there, probably just missing
something with initializing something before doing something.  Just a
wild guess.  I'll continue reading the specs tonight.
