Is it PLCC or TSOP? See

PLCC sockets are cheap and very easy to come by. TSOP sockets exist
but are not so common and thus cost quite a bit more.

I can help you out with soldering, both PLCC and TSOP, but getting
TSOP sockets may take a couple of weeks. :\
