[coreboot] Will coreboot run on my acer aspire L5100 machine?

Hi Gal,

your CPU and chipset is supported, so the biggest hurdle is solved. AMD
are actively involved in maintaining the RS690/SB600 chipset code, so
any problems that arise could get solved in the chipset area. CPU code
is mature and tested.

There are a few things which can't be fully analyzed from the info you
gave in your mail:
- Embedded Controller. Controls poweron, battery charging and maybe the
fans. Usually undocumented. No tool to autodetect it exists. High
resolution photos of the mainboard (upper and lower side) are the
easiest way to find the Embedded Controller. Usually not present on
desktop mainboards.
- SuperI/O. Manages keyboard and serial/parallel ports. In laptops it
often is integrated into the Embedded Controller. If it is separate from
the EC, superiotool has a high chance of detecting it. Please run
superiotool and report the results.
- BIOS flash chip. flashrom has a high chance of finding it, but it may
need one special patch. Otherwise a high-resolution (not blurry) photo
of the board helps. Even if flashrom finds the chip, a photo helps to
identify whether the chip is soldered or socketed.

If there is no Embedded Controller, the chances to be able to add
support for your board are pretty good. It will need developer time and
a dedicated tester, though, and the former is a bit hard to come by (we
all are really busy with our day jobs and important coreboot tasks).
Still, with enough info, it can be done in a reasonable timeframe.

Regards,
Carl-Daniel
