User talk:SvH/ Newmainpage

Hi! I'm not sure I like the new front page (but as the author of the current one I might be biased ;-) My main goal was to pack all of the important features and advantages of LinuxBIOS on the front page, so that every visitor immediately sees them on first sight (no searching around in the wiki). The page fits on one page (at least on bigger screens, e.g. 1400x1050 laptop screens), but you have to scroll with some smaller resolutions... I don't like scrolling either, but it's much more important to have all the important info on the from page, IHMO (advantages, use cases, possible payloads). --Uwe 17:51, 10 March 2007 (CET)

Thank you for your input. Your feedback is welcome. This was just a first idea, to redesign the frontpage. I thought there were too much information and "techy-talk" on it, for normal users to understand. Too much text on the frontpage is in my opinion bad, because you can get overloaded with information on the first look. Only the more interested, courios people should get more information, when they click around with their mouse. In my browser window the site doesn't fit in, because i use 1024×768Pixel resolution on my monitor. My intention was to replace the picture on the frontpage with a selfmade picture, which is not ready, yet. greetings --SvH 19:59, 10 March 2007 (CET)
More pictures are definately nice, I think we should rotate them (a new picture once every week or so) to let the visitors see more of LinuxBIOS... --Uwe 20:36, 10 March 2007 (CET)
Yeah. I agree with the "rotating pictures" idea. This way, visitors which come back, see that LinuxBIOS is not dead or boring. One week for one picture should be okay. :-) --SvH 20:53, 10 March 2007 (CET)
Btw, you have written on the frontpage, that a propritary BIOS is slow and buggy. I hope, that you remove the word buggy, because it is not neutral enough and implies, that LinuxBIOS has no bugs and will not have bugs. Most users don't think that their BIOS is slow or buggy, because they don't do anything in the BIOS or even know that such a thing exist. That LinuxBIOS is fast in comparison with a propritary BIOS, is in my opinion true and we should say this as often as we can. A key feature of LinuxBIOS. --SvH 21:59, 10 March 2007 (CET)
